National Assembly Calls For Retirement Of Service Chiefs

The National Assembly has urged President Bola Tinubu to retire all service chiefs, citing their failure to provide a secure environment for businesses and citizens.

Senator Adams Oshiomhole decried the security situation on the Senate floor, arguing that service chiefs have not used their training or experience to protect taxpayers. He raised concerns over daylight kidnappings and the inability of security personnel to respond promptly.

He recalled recent kidnappings in Kebbi State and attributed part of the problem to military withdrawals from checkpoints. He called for a comprehensive audit of security agencies to ensure accountability.

Senator Musa Sanni supported the call, saying events show the current service chiefs cannot provide an effective chain of command. He questioned why, despite large security budgets, kidnappings and killings persist.

The National Assembly said retiring the service chiefs would allow experienced senior officers to take immediate steps to restore security so Nigerians may sleep safely.
